Seriously one of the best experiences I’ve ever had!!!!
Review of: H2O Captain Eco-Tour Private Boat Excursions BWB...Repeat
Spending the day with H2O’s Captain Mark and first mate, Lucky the dog, was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on vacation! I was nervous because I wanted to feel safe and our daughter is 20 months old and unpredictable (if you have a toddler, you know!). We received great communication ahead of time and when we arrived at the boat, Captain Mark laid out the safety plan upfront and eased my mind immediately. He was so kind and genuine- you can tell he truly loves hosting and exploring with you! We got super lucky and saw around 10 wild horses and then had a magical time at the Cape Lookout lighthouse. Before we left, he gave us options to adapt the plans if we needed to provide a different experience for my daughter so it took off all the pressure of trying to force it to be a good time- we were just present and enjoyed the whole day. We also learned about some of the larger sailboats and yachts we saw along with some history of the area and just soaked it all in. I will remember this time on the water forever- the beautiful day and also Captain Mark’s hospitality and kindness towards my family! Book this one with confidence and know it will be an incredible experience!!! --Amanda D.

Our family had a wonderful time exploring with Captain Mark and Lucky. The Captain was very knowledgeable and was diligent in making certain we had a fun/safe trip. We saw horses, a pod of dolphins (including a baby), a living starfish, crabs, and we returned with a bag full of shells. --Leigh L.
Awesome day on the boat doing the three island tour
Review of: H2O Captain Eco-Tour Private Boat Excursions 3 Island Tour
Awesome!!! Did the 3 island tour with 4 other girlfriends. We saw wild horses, a lighthouse boated around took a couple of dips in the water, had lunch on the boat, and just toured around. Captain Mark was fun, informative, and flexible. Highly recommend!! --Jenny M.
My family did the Boat, Walk, Beach, Repeat tour today and had a wonderful time. Capt. Mark is safety-conscious, deeply knowledgeable, and fun. On our way to Shackleford Island, we saw the Army Corps of Engineers doing an amphibious assault landing training, which was unusual, and a pod of dolphins playing near our boat, which was a bonus. The ride itself was fun, and the captain was careful to let us know when we would be speeding up and turning.
When the island was in view we began seeing the beautiful horses gathered in family groups on the beach. We saw 11 horses on Shackleford Island. We followed the horse trails through the island to the beach on the opposite side of our landing, where we found some amazing shells. The captain told us about the island's history, identified the flora and fauna, identified the different types of shells, and really brought the island to life for us. We saw jellyfish and crabs, and, unfortunately, some trash that we took the time to pick up. Capt. Mark explained the hazards of the trash items to marine life.
The return trip was just as much fun, and we saw another four horses near the Rachel Carson Reserve. The Money Island goats never showed themselves, but after seeing 15 horses during this tour we counted ourselves lucky. We enjoyed the tour of the waterfront as well - in fact, we had dinner that night at a restaurant we'd passed on the tour.
Capt. Mark was attentive to our safety and comfort throughout the trip, and it was the best way to spend the last day of our vacation. I highly recommend this tour. Nicole D.
Excellent Eco-Tour of the Southern Outer Banks
Review of: H2O Captain Eco-Tour Private Boat Excursions Double Trouble: Shack Attack and a Lighthouse
We had a lovely day with Capt. Mark on the Shack and the Lighthouse excursion. Capt. Mark is a treasure trove of knowledge about the area and is a delightful conversationalist. Our group, 2 adults and 4 teens found the boat comfortable and well-appointed for these excursions. Of note, being a smaller boat you will feel the water - we found this refreshing and a more intimate way to see the surroundings. We have gone on many fishing charters in this area and found the Eco-Tour model to be a welcome change of pace and certainly more informative. We highly recommend! --Christopher T.

Captain Mark’s BWB Repeat excursion from Atlantic Beach was AMAZING!!! Captain Mark is friendly, professional, and accommodating! He did an incredible job at explaining various aspects of the area/nature and teaching us about navigating a boat. My husband and I had so much fun seeing the beautiful area by boat! And his dog Lucky is such a good pooch! --Amanda M.

"Hi Captain Mark - Greg and I wanted to again thank u and Lucky for a great day on the water! The weather was perfect, horses cooperated(lol!), and shelling was great but the company of u and your first mate is what made the trip special and first-rate! This is a beautiful area and some place I didn't know existed on the outer banks. So glad I found it as I was searching for a place to vacation. U offer up a great history of the area and really let us make the trip ours. Greg was like a kid behind the wheel and thank u for letting him do that. I'm sending a few pics from today and will send more when we get back home. I sure hope some of the horse pics on the preserve turn out. I was shaking some even though u kept the boat ever steady but part of that was my excitement at seeing another group of them. Nature is so gorgeous. People don't realize what they have until it is gone. Hopefully, it will never come to that. Again, thank u and Lucky so much!"

It was one of the most joyous, engaging, and informative three hours that we spent on our water cruise outside of Morehead City and Beaufort NC.

Our favorite part of our trip was stepping over a sand dune and seeing some of the wild horses coming right towards us. Captain Mark had lots of information about Shackleford Island and the history of the horses. We had plenty of time to do some shelling, swimming, and horse watching. On the way back, Captain Mark took us on a little tour through the Beaufort Inlet and pointed out some great places to eat. Even though some rain showed up on the way back, it was a remarkable experience."

Captain Mark was always making sure we were well taken care of and were having fun. Highly recommend!!"

A professional captain should be viewed as an important step in becoming familiar with a new boat. While some may see it as a necessary evil and expense, I have long argued it is perhaps one of the best things one can do to become a responsible and confident mariner. Especially for people like me who tend to avoid instruction in an academic environment, the hands-on experience of working and learning from the right captain makes all the difference in the world.
A professional USCG Licensed 100 Ton Master Captain is able to manage many sailing and motor vessels single-handedly and has the necessary knowledge to prepare and optimize your boating experience. A Captain is there to ensure the smooth running of operations on board. He/she must manage all the potential hazards, both on a technical and human level. She/he is the only master on board and it is he/she who takes responsibility for the crew and the vessel. However, the Captain's role does not stop at navigation; the Captain's ability to guide the crew and assign to each one of them their role on board is also essential. The Captain must know how to adapt to everyone's needs and desires while maintaining his/her role as a leader, which is essential for a good working environment and to avoid damage or injury. In short, the Captain is the guarantor of your well-being and safety.
Master Captain Mark's License allows him to take you out as far as 100 miles from the coast in a vessel up to 100 Gross Tons.
In addition, Captain Mark has obtained a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). The TWIC program provides a tamper-resistant biometric credential to maritime workers requiring unescorted access to secure areas of port facilities, outer continental shelf facilities, and vessels regulated under the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002, or MTSA.
The cost for the above is dependent upon job description, and duration of time.

Fitness and wellness travel is on the rise, according to the Global Wellness Institute, a nonprofit organization that promotes wellness initiatives worldwide. The Global Wellness Institute divides wellness travelers into two camps: “primary” wellness travelers, whose main motivation for a particular trip is health, and “secondary” wellness travelers, who aren’t laser-focused on this but still want to make healthy decisions by spending time outside in nature and that primo location is where passengers can enjoy the fabulous views.
On an H2O Captain tour, we proudly offer both options mentioned above, which we have pioneered, organized, and managed since the inception of our Eco-Tour Private Boat Excursions mission. As an Official Tour Guide of the National Park Service, H2O Captain takes small groups to observe the wild horses, explore the fantastic shelling opportunities on Shackleford Banks, and visit the iconic Cape Lookout Lighthouse. Additionally, we offer six other captivating destinations.

MOTHER NATURES' WEATHER
In the Bible, (Matthew XVI: 2-3,) Jesus said, “When in evening, ye say, it will be fair weather: For the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today; for the sky is red and lowering.” Weather lore has been around since people needed to predict the weather and plan their activities.
Although Captain Mark has been out on the water in one of his boats with temperatures in the mid-high teens and snowing, but, since we are all into this for fun and safety, should the temperature go below 50 degrees the trip won't run. Captain Mark recommends 60 degrees or higher with bright sunshine for the best of times.
No matter what the temperature, please bring a windbreaker and light jacket as the temperature on the water is approximately 10 degrees cooler than in Beaufort. Please click Checklist for your Cruise for more on what to bring.

A Small Craft Advisory is defined as wind speeds of 25 to 33 knots and/or seas of 6 feet or greater are expected to produce hazardous wave conditions.
If there appears to be "weather" coming in, Captain Mark will be in contact with you the night prior to your departure and check-in with you the morning of, should there be any questions. To prevent heat-related illness:
• Drink plenty of fluids. Captain Mark will have chilled bottled water onboard for you.
• Avoid caffeinated, sugary, or alcoholic drinks
• Reduce outdoor activities. Although we do have a Bimini for someone to get out of the sun, and we travel at approximately 22-28 mph, giving us a nice wind, if someone appears to be having a heat-related illness, we will head back to the marina, possibly causing a reduction in our private boat excursion time.
• Stay in air conditioning as much as possible. The H2O Captain vessel does NOT offer this amenity.
• Watch for symptoms of heat-related illness
• Stay informed
For the Junior Ranger in your family...Why?
The ocean looks blue because red, orange, and yellow (long wavelength light) are absorbed more strongly by water than is blue (short wavelength light). So when white light from the sun enters the ocean, it is mostly the blue that gets returned. The same reason the sky is blue as gases and particles in Earth's atmosphere scatter sunlight in all directions. Blue light is scattered more than other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why we see a blue sky most of the time.
